Standard House Rules

The following rules shall apply unless the dealer calls otherwise:

  • Bet limit is 50 cents
  • Raise limit is 3
  • Cards speak, unless Carson cries about it, in which case, Cards speak.
  • Flushes and Straights do not count against a low hand.
  • First buy-in is $10. After that, we'll take whatever you got.
  • All players MUST put Tooke's nuts in their mouth.
  • Play time is generally 8pm to midnight.


    The Games

    Along with the standard stud and draw games, the Santa Paula Poker Club offers the following:

    Baseball

    Pot Level: Potentially High
    New Player Playability: Difficult

    Dealt like 7 card stud. Sixes, Nines, and "down" Threes are wild. Fours may be traded for another card for 50 cents. Threes are wild if the player matches the pot, which makes all subsequent Threes wild for that player. Variations: 1.)"Down" Threes make your "up" Threes wild. 2.) Dealer may offer Three "insurance" before game is dealt.



    Three Card Monty

    Pot Level: Low
    New Player Playability: Easy

    Lowball game. Players get 3 cards down. Bet. Draw up to 3. Bet. Draw up to 2. Bet. Draw up to 1. Bet. Best hand: A-2-3. Variations: "Minnesota Monty". Least points wins. (ie. Best hand: A-A-A.)



    2-22

    Pot Level: High
    New Player Playability: Difficult

    Split pot numbers game. Players attempt to build a hand in which the cards total 2 for low or 22 for high. All cards are face value except for face cards, which count as 1/2 point. On each round, players may take a card or pass. After 3 consecutive passes, player cannot take more cards. Closest hand to 2 (on or over) or 22 (on or over) wins. Variations: 1.) On or under. 2.) "In between" (On or over 2, on or under 22). 3.) In a tie, the player with the most cards wins. 4.) In a tie, the player with the least cards wins.



    2-22 Red/Black

    Pot Level: Potentionally Astronomical
    New Player Playability: Very Difficult

    Same as 2-22, each player has 2 hands in that one hand contains red cards and one hand contains black cards. Variations: Same as 2-22.



    Santa Paula 2-22

    Pot Level: Potentionally Astronomical
    New Player Playability: Very Difficult

    22-22 Red/Black, "in between". Variations: Most cards wins. Least cards wins.



    Two Card Option

    Pot Level: Moderate
    New Player Playability: Moderate

    High/low split. Players are dealt one card up and one card down. Bet. Three more cards up with bets after each. Players may exercise the first "option" by trading an up card for an up card, or a down card for a down card. There is now a bet, a 2nd "option", and a final bet.



    Low Hole Wild

    Pot Level: Moderate
    New Player Playability: Easy

    Dealt like 7 card stud. The low hole card in your hand is wild. Any card that matches it is also wild.



    Crossfire

    Pot Level: Moderate
    New Player Playability: Moderate

    Each player is dealt 3 cards, 2 down and 1 up. A cross of down cards is placed on the table in the form of 1 card, surrounded by 1 card on each side. There is an initial bet, then each of the side cards is revealed, with a bet each time. Another up card is dealt, followed by a bet. The center card is then revealed, and there is a final bet. Players play the best 5 cards made up of any cards they have, along with the cards in any 1 row of the cross. The center card is wild, and any card which matches it is also wild.
